NIK PHELPS

Nik Phelps is an experienced wind instrument performance specialist, who has contributed on several of Tom Waits' albums, and also worked with Tony Bennet, George Burns and Frank Zappa and numerous other popular musicians.

In 1989 Phelps started doing live music to films when he joined the legendary Club Foot Orchestra for their work on the score for Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'. In 1996 he was nominated for an Annie Award by the International Animated Film Society for his compositions for 'The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat'

American born Phelps lives in Belgium with his wife Nancy. Current projects include composing, arranging and recording music for independent animators, and holding workshops at universities and festivals on topics ranging from 'Soundtrack Creation for Film' and 'A History of Animation Through Music' to 'Directors and Composers - a Working Relationship'. Phelps recently contributed with the music to Ivan Maximov's 2008 film 'The Additional Capabilities of the Snout' and Nina Payle's 2008 feature film 'Sita Sing the Blues' which won the Grand Prix at Annecy.

Phelps will be performing 'A History of Animation Through Music' at this years festival on Thurday November, 12th.
